I am now officially at the the two-thirds mark, beginning my third trimester this week. Time certainly is flying by quickly. The past two weeks have been a whirl wind to say the least. And I know that the next week is going to be no exception. I am off to sunny Arizona this afternoon for a blessing/baby shower. I am so excited to see everyone.
I had a great birthday. It was full of fresh flowers, the music of Duke Ellington (who also shares my birthday), delicious food and lots of love from friends and family. It was a great spring day to turn 31.
My first Mother's Day was really nice as well. We said farewell to Tia Carolyn who was visiting from Milwaukee, but only after we went to the Tenement Museum in the morning. We took a tour of The Moore Family, an Irish Immigrant Family that lived on the Lower East Side in 1869. It was really interesting. I love learning what life for my ancestors was like, especially here in New York. It talked a lot about the mortality rate of children back in the days and horror of swill milk. One if four children died back then. I can not imagine ... heartbreaking. I am thankful to be living in the 21st century. The evening was much more cheery. Will took me out to a French restaurant that had a live jazz music. It was simply lovely. I look forward to next year when there will be three of us.
I recently found out, I have been measuring big this entire pregnancy. The doctor wanted me to go in and have another ultrasound to double check that everything is on track. It is just precautionary to make sure that I am as far along as we think and double check the amount of amniotic fluid. It also means that we got to see our son again. I have attached a few photos of the sonogram below. He's getting so big, it really is a miracle. The most amazing thing was to see him and feel him kick me in real time. That was quite breath taking... literally, he's got some power now. We saw his little feet for the first time. I am still giddy just thinking of them.
Well, everything looks great. Our little baby is healthy with "a beautiful pair of kidneys". They were also quick to confirm that it is indeed a boy. He is right on track for an 8/8 due date. Which means I am just big! They say it is just the way I am carrying him. I also found out that my mom carried all three of us big, so that makes me feel better. However, you should see the peoples faces when they find out that I still have three months to go. I am going to be HUGE come August.
I just got a call from the doctor. I have to go back in next week for a three hour glucose test, where they have to draw my blood four times over a three hour period. Ouch! My veins like to hide when they know a needle is close. It's not uncommon for the nurse to have to draw blood from the top of my hands. (Which is also really painful if you've never had it done) Hopefully they will have better luck poking me next week than they did this week. I don't even want to think about them taking blood off the top of my hand four separate times. I'm going to be all sorts of black and blue. But I suppose that is what I get for my sudden sweet tooth. All the cupcakes from Magnolia's probably didn't help either. (Thanks Tia!)
I should go and finish packing. I look forward to seeing everyone who is able to make it in Arizona.
